Big, curvy, and beautiful: the next generation of monitors is coming
Bigger and wider is always good.
However, 2 important points:
- Must have G-Sync/Freesync; and
- Must have at least 120hz refresh (having g-sync with 60hz max refresh is pointless).
G-sync is crazy expensive and I don’t trust brands like Acer and Asus. I’ve also read about people complaining about driver issues when running G-sync at 144 Hz. I think I’ll wait another few years before I decide to jump in.
Weird things going on there.
Acer and Asus are very reputable in the monitor biz AFAIK.
Never heard of any problems with 144hz with Gsync.
I’ve only tried their cheaper models and I have bad experience with them. Customer reviews are all over the place. If I pay £600 for a monitor I want it to be near perfect.
I’ve never gotten used to working with multiple monitors. An ultrawide single monitor might actually be the better option for me.
Meh, I think the curved screens are more of a passing fad.
And I’m waiting for a non-propitiatory refresh solution, too.
VR is going to be my next monitor
I want a really good 1440p screen. The curvature doesn’t matter, I just want a super wide screen instead of the dual monitor mess I currently have.
I might be in the minority, but for a computer monitor, there comes a point where it becomes too wide for general use. If you’re playing PC games on it, then it’s understandable, but I rarely do.
Too wide if you run one program at full screen. Imagine a ton of different programs that are all easily viewed and used at once. That’s what I want.
Even on a 16:9 monitor I often run two programs side-by-side. Most operating systems have keyboard shortcuts for snapping windows to the sides.
That’s great for two programs. I want eight or nine that don’t have to be snapped to be useable.
I can’t look at more than one or two window at the same time anyway. If I’m juggling other programs I can switch between then or rotate entire desktops instead.
Keep in mind that I’ve been streaming a good bit more of late. I have to toggle about five programs/browser windows for the optimal experience.
