Destiny The Game

#21

Apparently, you can get Destiny gear from pre-ordering the new Call of Duty. The retailer I bought the game from is offering a shader that is inspired by Advanced Warfare.

#22

I got two legendary engrams in 20 minutes. The first one was a rare Titan mark. Maybe the other one will be something more exciting.

Edit: The 2nd engram was a rare sniper rifle.

#23

Good one?

I got a legendary engram last night, it ended up being a rare chest piece. (Are chest pieces class based?) If so it was something I could wear.

Do you want to know the farming spot?

#24

The rifle is alright. I was planning to make a second character that only uses hand cannons and sniper rifles so it might be useful.

Farming spot for legendary engrams? It depends on the drop rate. When I only have a limited time to play I prefer to play one of the PvP modes.

#25

In the span of about 15 minutes I got one legendary engram. It could be more, but depends on a lot of factors.

It is easy to work the spot, I will make a clip of it when I get home and post it here.

A Destiny story summary for people who dozed off

According to its creators, Destiny is the start of a series that is expected to span a decade of games and content. In storytelling terms though, it’s off to a slow start, making the poor decision to hide a lot of vital background in unlockable cards on the Destiny website and companion app and only reluctantly telling its story through dull mission descriptions and vestigial cut-scenes that take hours to trickle into view.

With that in mind - and given that people may play missions out of order anyway - it’s probably worth recapping the story of Destiny, both for people who have finished it already and for those who are joining the series at some later date. And, you know, for rubbernecking gamers who don’t plan to play it but do fancy glorying in its naivety.

So then, scratched together from briefings, cut-scenes and Grimoire cards, here’s what happens in Destiny.

My intention to only use hand cannons and sniper rifles didn’t last long. It’s too tempting to use the uncommon and rare weapons I have collected in the shared character storage. The auto rifle I currently have equipped is almost twice as powerful as my best hand cannon.

#28

I’ve been using a rare auto rifle in PvE and PvP. It does well in both cases, but I would love a legendary auto rifle to replace it.

I am lvl 26 now, working towards 27. I got the exotic warlock gauntlet that Xur was selling. Was pretty awesome, since I needed 2 strange coins, and with only a few hours before he left I got the 2 coins I needed from a legendary engram.

My brother popped an exotic weapon bounty, he chose the shotgun Invictus. I really hope I get one of those bounties soon as well.

Two different groups of friends have both started running the raid. I am really hoping my brother and other friends get up high enough soon so we can run the raid as well.

Destiny’s latest patch makes a number of missions easier.

Update 1.0.1.4 reduces the difficulty of three activities, and fixes a bug that was preventing players who completed the Vault of Glass raid from getting loot.

The patch notes on Bungie.net tone down the difficulty of the Shrine of Oryx, Sword of Crota and Exclusion Zone missions by removing majors from Heroic tiers.

Majors are elite enemies that are stronger than their standard counterparts. Heroic tiers is a reference to the difficulty level of the mission.

Meanwhile, Bungie has fixed the Vault of Glass bug that many players had complained about since the raid went live last week.

Some players who completed the raid were met with a black screen and, as a result, no loot. Given the time and effort required to finish the Vault of Glass activity, there was an understandable degree of upset.

Now, dropping the relic at the end of the raid will no longer result in a team wipe. This should prevent players being stuck at the black screen.

However, players will remain dead if they were dead when the mission ends. This will be addressed by a future patch, Bungie said.

There’s no mention in the patch notes of Destiny’s magic loot cave, which we reported on yesterday. Perhaps it’ll be tackled next week.

Elsewhere, a new non-player character will this evening visit The Tower. The Queen’s Emissary offers new bounties and missions as well as unique legendary and rare gear as a reward. The Emissary will stick around until 8th October.

Those missions didn’t need to be made easier. Not sure why people have trouble with them.

Glad to hear about the raid, I saw some people running it with no drops, that sucks.

#31

Played the Beta a bit, loved the boss level. So does the campaign mode get more fleshed out later on?

#32

It’s lacking a bit in story since there aren’t many cutscenes in the game. I do like piecing together the story from observing the world, listening to conversation and reading the lore in the grimoire.

The strike missions (3 player co-op challenge missions) are very intense and challenging. The bosses in the single player story mode are not as exciting.

#33

The campaign story is pretty lackluster.

I agree here, the daily/weekly missions are challenging as well. I haven’t tried the nightfall, but I know it will be very very hard.

#34

Obtained an exotic weapon bounty for Pocket Infinity which is a sick looking fusion rifle. Have a ways to go to complete the bounty though. http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Shattered_Memory_Fragment

In Hotfix 5, we made a few changes to reduce the effectiveness of a humbling number of economy exploits. Check out these Destiny Dev Notes to read a summary of our impressions since launch.

I think this is good.

Material rewards for dismantling Queen’s Wrath gear will no longer provide ascendant materials, but missions will continue to drop Legendary items

I am sad about this. :frowning:

The Hive of the holy “Treasure Cave” have realized the futility of their endless assault on Skywatch and have retired to lick their wounds and plan their next attack.

I just noticed all the Queen related missions. Too bad I only had time to play for half an hour today.

Destiny 1.0.2 patch changes how Engrams work

Destiny is a strange, ever-evolving thing with its Loot Cave attraction getting nerfed and its Rocketyard Room springing up. Next week it will be slightly different as Bungie will be releasing its 1.0.2 patch that changes the way loot drops work.

Currently Legendary Engrams (i.e. loot that requires decoding) will often result in only Rare items, which is kind of a bummer. After the 1.0.2 patch, “Legendary Engrams will always produce Legendary or better quality items, including Materials or Exotics,” Bungie noted on its blog.

Rare Engrams will also always produce Rare or better quality loot, and they’ll even have an increased chance of resulting in Legendary items.

However, the criteria for what’s considered Legendary has diminished somewhat. After the patch, Ascendant materials will be categorised as Legendary “to closer associate them with the gear they are used to upgrade.” Make of that what you will.

Furthermore, Daily Heroics, Weekly Heroics, and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist activities will produce better rewards with Rare and Legendary Engrams added to their bounty.

Also, Legendary Engrams in your inventory will be demoted to Rare ones once the patch goes live, so Bungie suggests you get these decoded while you can. “But let’s be honest - even if you don’t, we all know they were blues already,” the developer said.

My friends and I ran the raid tonight. We managed to make it to the last boss but had to call it quits.

It is hard but I’ve had a ton if fun. No great loot though.

#39

Yesterday I went through some of the story missions and the first two strikes with my pistol/sniper character. The game plays very differently when you carefully have to aim for all the weak points before letting off a shot. I found a really nice rare pistol with an extra large clip.
