Do you think video games will ever go out of vogue?

#1

With console games becoming less popular and mobile games becoming more popular, it makes me wonder if future generations will no longer be interested in playing video games. Other forms of entertainment could take their place as the The Next Big Thing. Steam has invigorated PC games and video games overall, but the issue of having to upgrade PC specs every 4-5 years will always be there as an obstacle to people, especially younger kids today and generations to come. VR is an unknown factor. It has potential to evolve video games in the future.

What do you think?

#2

Not really. I do think we’re nearing a level of density and variety that will damage the leading markets but not so that the whole thing will die. Games are something that have been a part of society for thousands of years, and digital technology isn’t going anywhere. They coalesce so easily that i doubt they’ll ever be significantly apart.

I definitely hope it changes significantly at some point, if only because stagnation is never healthy.

#3

As long as the FPS and sports genres continue to be successful, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about with the gaming industry.

#4

Platforms come and go. Gaming will endure.

#5

god I hope so
harder to say what the bigger mistake was, video games or anime?

#6

Anime.

#7

Toku.

#8

Toku is no mistake.

Toku is life.

#9

VR is the future

#10

I worry that videogames will all be VR and the only option outside of it will be board games.

#11

I miss playing board games actually. Chess and checkers will forever be timeless games.

#12

Board games will be in VR, too silly.

#13

I seriously hope not.

#14

#15

Why do you hurt me like this?

#16

You do it to yourself

And that’s what really hurts

#17

I always read how VR will be the future and stuff. I don’t understand why that is mentioned so often.

#18

They’re crazy people. VR is an important technology starting point, it will probably kick start holographic tech and other things, but i think it will have a lot more industrial uses than to final consumers. But games? F that.

#19

I’m not sold on VR games yet. While I haven’t tried out the Oculus, I don’t think I can see myself wearing that headset for a long period of time. It begs the question if games that typically have you playing for a couple hours can be applied to a VR headset. I have to imagine that would give you a headache at a certain point. If that’s the case, then I’d rather not play for 20 minute interval sessions. I’d rather just play on a tv then.

Just wait, guys.

Just wait.
