I never got around to playing this series. The main character has Android 17’s (from DBZ) clothing. I doubt SQEX will bother with this one, even though DQVII and DQVIII 3DS will be localized. That’s too much DQ for us. Let’s not spoil ourselves now.

I played the first game in the series and I didn’t enjoy it at all. It was grindy and I collecting monsters isn’t my thing, although I am a fan of the MegaTen series. Somehow this wasn’t as fun.

Dude I have some hardcore nostailgia about the original Dragon Quest: Monsters.

It was honestly one of my first video games I ever played.

#4

Actually, I was thinking of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (NDS). I never played the original for the Game Boy Color.

#5

Agreed. I’m realizing that I don’t like monsters you come across in the world joining your party. It’s too bad Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is like that because I was getting into the story. I stopped playing shortly after. Just wasn’t fun.

So is DQM basically pokemon?

#7

More or less

Sounds like I’m the only one who enjoyed DQMJ on the DS :confounded: Sure it has its flaws, but it was pretty impressive to traverse the world in full 3D and explore around with the monsters running around. I’ve played a little bit of part 2, that one improves on so many things, it’s going to be a good one.

And so I am pretty excited for DQMJ3. Possibly more than DQVII (don’t kill me!).

It’s the same genre or type of game but the emphasis or feel is a bit different. You can collect all monsters if you like but it’s about building a badass team through combining monsters. What’s cool about it is you can pick the skills the monsters can keep once they have been combined (if my memory is right), making it an addictive process to create a balanced team.

So like… SMT pokemon?

#10

SMT can already sometimes be pokemon.

#11

I’ve played a little bit of SMT Nocturne or whatever it was called. That one involved combining monsters but I don’t remember if the skills you get are random after combining the monsters or that you have more control like with DQMJ.

I played for about 10 hours, around the time the whole monster fusion thing started.

I can’t say for certain if DQMJ is very similar to SMT Nocturne but it’s closer to it than Pokemon I think.

So SMT is like Pokemon sometimes, both of which like DQM. I understand.
