Square Enix is bringing Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, which first launched for PS2 in 2004 and more recently for smartphones in December, to 3DS in Japan on August 27 for 5,980 yen, the company announced.

The 3DS version will have a new scenario, new party members in the form of a female thief named Garda and Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road‘s Morrie, full voice-overs, music by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and support for the handheld’s StreetPass feature.

It’s too bad the Dragon Quest VII 3DS remake and Dragon Quest X didn’t get released in the west. I would’ve especially liked to play the latter, being a big MMORPG fan.

I could see myself playing that again. Too bad it’s for the 3DS.

Too bad??? More like hell yeah!

Having it on a portable with physical buttons is nice I guess. Unfortunately it will have lower resolution than the decade old original. I hope they at least speed up loading times and combat. You don’t need to display text for everything, and even if you do you can be less verbose and group messages that affects multiple characters.

I’m pumped to kill metal slimes in glorious 3d

Finally. I hope i buy this.

I hope you do, too.

And I hope it goes on sale within the first year.

I hope to play the PS2 game someday. I’ve beaten DQIV-VI, and DQIX, but not DQI-III, and DQVII-VIII. Obviously not DQX. I played most of DQIII on the GBC version, but I was at this castle where you had to grind your characters big time, so I stopped playing.
