Healthcare in your country. How would you rate it?

Read this article comparing US and UK NHS healthcare.

I personally haven’t experienced the NHS, but having experienced the US healthcare system I agree with this article.

It frustrates me when people complain about Obamacare and other “socialist” healthcare systems, and tout the US system as the best.

For some things it can be better, and maybe even the best. Bluntly put, it isn’t the best by most if not all metrics that matter.

How do you feel about your own healthcare systems where you live? How would you rate it?

My experience is largely the same as the article’s. When my grandmother had cancer, she was almost immediately checked in and guaranteed treatment. I was literally mind broken when i saw that we were buying her medicine that cost thousands of euros for, like, two euros or something. And the hospital covered public transportation costs. The worst experience i had was waiting one hours for an appointment, then having to wait another hour for an exam, then another hour for yet another appointment. Which was boring as hell. But that was the worst of it really. Even the other day i saw on the news that the NHS was trying to get some HepC medicine for, hum, forty thousand euros or something. To think that upwards of 99% of that cost would be covered by the NHS whenever someone needed it is still something that i have a hard time grasping. I can’t imagine life without it.

The healthcare system in Sweden is good in general although I do have a few nitpick complaints. If you know what to ask for then it’s easy to get in contact with the right specialist. If you don’t, then you might get the wrong or no treatment. Although all citizens have an assigned personal physician, nobody will evaluate your overall health and work on preventing issues. The current cost ceiling for patients is €120 per year. Treatment and necessary prescription drugs beyond that will be covered by the state.

I’m a 24 year old american male with work-provided health insurance. And before that I had my parent’s work provided health insurance. So I got nothing to complain about.

I’m young and invincible, anyway.

You’re 24? Not sure why I thought you were older.

I don’t have health insurance, but I have dental insurance. Currently I don’t have any major medical issues. Dental problems are more pressing, at the moment, and I’ve been having a lot of that, lately.
