I'm thinking of getting a Wii U (lol)

Yeah, not so smug now are we Laboured-kun?

Anyways, given that:

 1. I miss playing Nintendo first party exclusive games;
 2. There are quite a few of them;
 3. They are quite good;
 4. They would nicely compliment my PC game library; and
 5. I’m moving in to a new flat with shorty and we’ll want local MP games;

then I’m thinking a Wii U might be a good idea.

So, in part, I’m asking for your recommendations on games (only really interested in exclusives here) and especially those with a local MP angle.

I’d also appreciate any pros and cons you’ve discovered about the console that you wouldn’t immediately have noticed before buying it.

I really, really want one.

Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Wind Waker HD, and Bayonetta 2 alone.

The library is so good for it now.

Retail games
• Mario Kart 8 ★★★☆☆
• New Super Mario Bros. U ★★★☆☆ - It might be the best 2D Mario ever.
• Nintendo Land ★★★★☆ - A fantastic collection of tech demos and really fun to play in large groups.
• The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD ★★★☆☆ - Stopped playing it twice already. It’s way slower than the 2D games.
• The Wonderful 101 - Only played the demo. Got this from the MK8 promotion.
• Wii Fit U ★★★☆☆ - Not very innovative, but solid nonetheless.
• ZombiU ★★☆☆☆ - Repetitive with frustrating controls.

Downloadable games (I avoid getting these because of Nintendo’s lack of a proper account system. Purchases should be tied to the account, not the physical console.)
• Tank! Tank! Tank! (free edition) ★★☆☆☆ - The free version is very bare bones. Perhaps the campaign would be more fun.

I’ll pick up 3D Mario once I’m done with the 2D game. Bayonetta 1+2 is on its way.

I’m thinking Nintendo Land and MK8 will be musts for me.

I’ll get the 3D Mario and Bayo games quite likely.

Definitely getting Wind Waker.

Tempted by W101. I know it got mixed reviews tho.

Not interested in the downloadable games because of the locked to console issue.

What else am I missing?

#5

…are these your ratings?

#6

Yes, those are ratings.

#7

Dem’s some harsh ratings arch. Must be an advocate of the full scale.

#8

Nintendo hater. Full stop.

#9

So what’s backwards compatibility like?

Are there any must have accessories?
Not only that, the Wii U library hasn’t impressed me yet. Mario Kart 8 and New Super Mario Bros. U would have been amazing if I hadn’t already played several almost identical games before.

So what’s backwards compatibility like?
All my Wii games work fine. It’s not compatible with Gamecube games.
Are there any must have accessories?
You need a Wiimote and a nunchuk if you want to play Wii games. The pro controllers aren’t compatible with both Wii and Wii U titles so I have chosen to not support those.

MK8 is the best kart they’ve ever made. Smash bros coming out soon, too.

Wii U was a great purchase for me.

Also, Donkey Kong Country!!!

#12

Ah of course, forgot about Smash Bros and DK. New Zelda coming too.

#13

arch is the reviewer we deserve

#14

Motherfucker’s got stars. I can’t compete with that.

damn with shorty! crazy how that shit works out

#17

Personally i will just wait until the new Zelda comes out before considering buying it. It’s the only reason i’d want one tbh, aside from also playing mah wii zeldas.

#18

That’s a long ways away, and there’s MORE than enough out right now to justify a purchase for most people.
