Is this the future? Or things that would be amazing 10-20 years ago but are creepy now

This thread is not just about Dash button, but anything that we would consider awesome/fantastic 10-20 years ago, but no seem creepy/odd or make us ask why?

I actually think it is a good idea, because it hits how people use consumables like that. You go to watch some clothes, realize you’re almost out of detergent, then remind yourself to order (or add it to your list to buy at the store) some more. Then you get on with what you were doing, and then forget to order and it happens again. Not until you run out or you remember, do you get what you need.

People get around this by just having it be apart of their regular shopping, but that isn’t always the case.

These buttons would fit in that niche of needing more soon, and not having to do anything more than press a button. It isn’t meant to save time, but add convenience and immediate action.

From that article, and my own thoughts on it, I think this is their way to get the data they need to automate these types of things. You first install the button, start using it, then you don’t need it anymore because it knows when you will need it. That or as said in the article, the appliances and things that consume the products would order it for you.

That sounds interesting. I think a lot of people would want consumable goods immediately, though. Not the next day or something. If Amazon can eventually ship out consumable goods hours later, then they’d be on to something.

It’s your last bundle of toilet paper and it’s almost down to the cardboard roll. Did you remember to order more on Amazon? Because the situation just became dire.

The days of squeezing out the last droplet of toothpaste out of a tube are almost past us.

It’s for those times when you think to yourself, I really should order/buy some more of X (toilet paper, laundry detergent, coffee) but you aren’t out yet.

Weird as hell and not something i’ll ever willingly partake in. I don’t need more ways to keep me inside, nor am i in such dire need of maintaining productivity that some actual getting out of the house to go shopping becomes insurmountably complicated, though i’m sure Amazon will gladly tell me so.

Between this and VR porn, we are doomed as the human race.

You are a savage creature, John Spartan, and I wish you to leave my domicile now.

If I didn’t have a Costco membership for shit like this, I’d sign up in a heartbeat.

If I could order from Costco using this, then sign me up! Using Google Shopping Express with Costco was awesome. Get all the benefits, without the crowd and impulse purchases.

It’s actually not a bad idea. If they could group shipments (and thus provide free shipping) then it would be quite convenient. Online grocery shopping is becoming increasingly popular in my city and depending where you live it might not even be more expensive than taking a trip to the store. You also have to factor in the costs from visiting the store yourself and owning a car. If I didn’t enjoy walking I would use the service myself.

I kinda like it. Although my local shop is so close I just grab most of these things on my way home from work.
