Nippon Ichi: If Disgaea 5 doesn't sell well, we may not be in business any longer

In celebration of the 20th PlayStation anniversary, 107 developers will be leaving brief comments about PlayStation in the coming three weeks.

Here is Nippon Ichi’s gloomy message said by Shinkawa Sohei:

If Disgaea 5 doesn’t sell as planned then we might not still be in business the year after. Even though Bloodborne is now releasing the same day, we really hope people will pick up both titles at once.

I’d be sad to see Nippon Ichi close up shop, but unfortunately, they’ve always been a niche game developer. Their games haven’t pushed a great deal of units, but Disgaea has proven to be their most successful IP. Lord knows they tried to branch off and making successes out of other IPs they’ve developed. Most were attempted on the PS2.

I only care about NISA. As long as they get to continue being a publisher, NIS proper could shut down and I wouldn’t care.

I don’t think NISA would exist without N1.

Well, that NISA forum comment is good news. I own one Disgaea and I have no desire to buy any more SRPGs from them. I got the impression that they are quite similar to each other and filled with more content than have time for.

You’d think by their fifth installment they would’ve gone fully 3D by now.

As much as I love everything Japanese, couldn’t give two shits about this developer.

Poop games.
