I’m content with being bilingual to a language that is no longer spoken today in the modern world, and it’s a basically dead language. I’m ok with that. My mom has wanted me to learn Greek since I was a kid. Most Greeks speak very loudly and quickly, and that bothers the hell out of me, so it’s made me dislike the language, but the language on its own, removing the social and cultural influence from it, is pretty nice. If I did speak the language well enough, I’d only use it to speak to my relatives in Greece, since most of my younger relatives have forgotten how to speak Aromanian. Other than that, learning Russian would be interesting. I’ve always liked how it sounded.

Yes, Russian would be another language I would like to study, along with Chinese and Korean. But it won’t be possible to learn this many languages and speak them decently.
My dream is to be able to speak, read and write the following languages fluently or very decently: Arabic, Dutch, English, Japanese, German and Spanish. The former three I speak fluently if not close enough. The latter three I need to work on them. Something that I have been doing for German and Spanish for the past 3 months. Japanese I’m not putting enough time in it but started to do so a couple of days ago.
It sounds crazy to put so much time and energy into learning a language that is no longer spoken today.
BTW, what are all the languages you guys can speak? Or ones you want to learn. Can you list them? I’m curious and interested to know
I speak Swedish and English fluently. I understand Norwegian and Danish, although I don’t speak them. I’ve studied French, Spanish and Interlingua, but not at a high level. I understand some Italian and Portuguese since they are closely related to the Latin languages I’ve studied.
English and native. I could probably survive in Spain, France and Italy since they’re sort of similar. I’d like to learn nihongo one day, it would be very useful for games and photos.
But really, actually speak and read and have fluent conversations, only english and portuguese.
I speak English and Aromanian fluently. I can speak and understand some words and phrases in Greek.
My dad has a gift for picking up languages easily. He can speak Albanian, Aromanian, Greek, and English fluently, and he knows a little bit of Spanish. He’s also able to mimic other accents near perfectly. If you were talking to him in English, you would think that he was born and raised in the US.
Question is, what should I do with it? Porting domains is a pain… we’ve been through it before haha.
Having the .com though is great. Waiting on a transfer to my main domain registrar so all my domains are in one place.
You mean .com
to .co
or vice versa? Right now it is going from .com
to .co
.
Not a big deal, but won’t be doing it until next weekend most likely as I don’t have time to mess with it today.
Would be cool to have .com back as the main page. Does the “discourse” part in the URL always have to be there? Curious about that.
Replacing the “discourse” part with nothing or “www” seems like a good idea to me.
At this point I don’t see any reason to change it as you don’t have to actually type it in to get to the forums. As I figure out what I will be doing with the .com
I will look into long term what makes sense for the domain here.
Keep in mind, that while currently we only have this forum, if we want to grow at all, we need more reasons for people to check the site out. That could be in the form of a blog, or something, though I realize that has been long talked about.
.com would go a long way toward improving the “image” and making it seem less… shady, maybe?
Start the blog. Give me an interface to write into and I’ll post something.
Even if we had ten new people posting here, that would make a world’s difference on the forum.
About a blog…if you guys remember, I used to have one. Due to being busy, I didn’t have the time to write many entries and it kinda died out.
A blog where we all participate in would be very interesting. It would also be easier to maintain.
