Shadow of Mordor

Shadow of Mordor is out now and looks great. I’ve been following it since it was showed at E3.

I am seriously considering getting it, but with Destiny and Halo coming up I might not fully play it.

Is anyone else getting it, or already has it?

I wanted to get this as well, but with Alien coming out tomorrow there really is no point in buying both games because next-gen is exceedingly expensive. When will publishers learn to not release everything in the same damn month? Pretty much a barren year and then they decide to release it all on the same month. I hope none of them complain about bad sales, because this is ridiculous.

I would have taken this over alien if this wasn’t so ork/mordor based. Just feels like a way for the developers to have you fight hordes of the same type of characters for hours.
This should have been a game where get to go to other parts of middle-earth and explore.

I have it, the game is fun but excruciatingly difficult. Every time you start fighting a Captain will come into the picture, then two, and three, and next thing you know you’re dead and every Captain involved in that fight is now ranked up and this harder to kill. The concept is very cool though, every Captain is unique with their own cool armor and grotesque facial disfigurations and are all given short cutscenes with voice overs.

Really enjoying it.

You need to be calculating in how and when you strike, otherwise you get situations like the ones ugh just described. That said, even those fights can be fun.

Game gets better the further along you get. The new skills really open the game up so I recommend that anyone playing it get through some story missions first to unlock some of the good abilities.

I want this so baaddd yyoouuggguuyyyssss

Yeh now that I’ve started to do some missions instead of aimlessly killing groups of dudes the game has shown it’s true potential.
I killed my first warchief and used a bunch of different techniques to chip away at his health and it felt very smooth and natural and I liked it!

#7

When you get to the second half of the game you get the brand ability and that’s where the game really opens up. So fun.

This game runs surprisingly well on my PC. I built it in 2011 and it’s running a Radeon HD 5670.

Since I know next to nothing about the Lord of the Rings lore, would I still be able to understand this game’s story?

^Our dude’s family got slaughtered by Sauron’s (the main evil guy in lotr i believe - i barely paid attention to the movies) minions, so he sets it upon himself to exact revenge upon those responsible by working his way up the corporate ladder if you will and killing everyone in his path.
Also for reasons unbeknownst to us a dead elf with special abilities that can’t remember his past takes solace within your body and allows you use of his powers.

One of these days, I should watch The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. I’m interested in the universe, but I haven’t committed myself in diving into it seriously. I would catch one of the movies playing on TV, but I’d only sit through it for 5-10 minutes before changing the channel. Shadow of Mordor looks like a good game, and from what you guys have been saying about it, it confirms that for me.

I’ve got shit loads of my mind-controlled minions and captains working up the ranks, offing rivals. It’s beautiful.

I feel like once you unlock a certain amount of abilities you just become invincible. It’s button mashing to the max and you’re basically invulnerable while doing certain animations.

#14

I watched a few minutes of the video above and now I’m thinking of picking it up at some point. How well does the PS4 version perform? Is it restricted to 30 FPS? My gaming PC’s GPU is slightly outdated and I’m not sure it would perform much better on it.

You do become noticeably more powerful. I really like it. The progression is meaningful. You still can’t button mash your way through populated areas. You’re mainly just given more fun options for tackling scenarios.

Good follow up article on Shadow of Mordor on Eurogamer:

Shadow of Mordor is wise to focus on the baddies

#17

If it’s better than a 5670, you’re fine. I’m running that and it’s not giving me issues.

My card is approximately five times more powerful than a 5670 so for now I added it to my Steam wishlist.
