The most pointless hardware in PC gaming

#1
  1. LCD monitor response rates
  2. Dynamic contrast
  3. Cheap video cards with lots of memory
  4. GPU branding
  5. New Intel CPU sockets
  6. New versions of Windows
  7. Gaming laptops with terrible screens
  8. Stupid-fast RAM
  9. Bazillion-DPI mice
  10. Extreme ‘overclocking’ features on motherboards

What’s your pet peeve when it comes to PC features?

#2

Meh, don’t really mind any of those.

#3

You just need to be careful before spending any money on PC gear. If you have your bullshit goggles on you can usually filter away meaningless numbers.

#4

I would put a dedicated sound or network card at the top of the list.

A lot of those features are kind of important.

#5

eh I like my sound card compared to onboard
is it necessary, obv not

agree with most of those tho

#6

I never thought “overclocking” mattered too much in the overall picture if you already had a really powerful rig. To those who want that extra “oomph” of performance in games it certainly would, but I’m not one of those people.

#7

Some of these I wouldn’t even categorize as “Hardware”

Windows? Not Hardware.

Mice? Accessory/peripheral, not hardware.

Monitor features? You’d be stretching to call a monitor hardware, and the features are definitely not.
