What are y'all playing? ver 2.0

#522

Kinda looks like Massive Chalice.

#523

I havenā€™t played that yet, but it does look interesting. Iā€™m a bit wary about the developer though.

#524

Just finished Talos Principle. Wholly recommended if youā€™re into puzzle games. The most obvious comparison would be Portal, i guess. Itā€™s very much like that. But much more heavy in story and themes.

Probably one of the best narratives in games to be honest. Top notch writing and design all around. Perhaps too philosophical in nature for most peopleā€™s tastes but really strong nonetheless.

Shitā€¦ a DLC released just yesterday. Thatā€™s gonna have to wait i guess.

#525

Man, my friends and I have been hardcore addicted to Donā€™t Starve Together.

Iā€™ve never played the single player mode, but I can see how this is like a 300% improvement. Really awesome with 2-4 peeps

#526

My friends have got me into playing it. I thought itā€™d be Dwarf Fortress levels of inscrutable, but I did okay my first couple hours.

#527

Wolfenstein: the old blood is a great little reminder of just how much fun a shooter can be when it puts its focus on gameplay and challenge first. I havenā€™t had this much fun with a shooter in a while, also the storyā€™s not great, but itā€™s a lot better than youā€™d expect at the same time - not that itā€™s what youā€™re here for though.

edit - also, itā€™s been apparent since Rage, but idtech 5 might be the best first person engine on the market - itā€™s got wonderful smoothness to it.

2 games have been completed from my previous list. They are:

Edge
This has been a very enjoyable puzzle game. It took some time to fully appreciate it. This certainly deserves to be played by fans of the genre.

James Pond 2
As expected, this has been a very short 2D platformer. Something that is very common with platformers around the megadrive and super nintendo era. Especially when you are given the option to save instead of playing it in one go. I had a good time with it. While the mascot or IP doesnā€™t do much for me, the game is made with care. I liked playing it.

Having completed these 2 games on the PSP, I decided to start on another game. This time itā€™sā€¦Syphon Filter, a PS1 game.

Syphon Filter 1 was released shortly before or after MGS1. It seems to be compared with MGS1 often. Itā€™s a very different beast though. There might be some stealth elements here and there, but itā€™s an action game where you go quickly through events and try many weapons. I honestly expected the game to feel very outdated but Iā€™m having tons of fun with it. Even the controls are pretty good when compared to other PS1 games. The game has 5 main chapters, each chapter has sub chapters. I completed 2 main chapters.

So the current list of the games I should be busy with for the next period:

  • Blue Dragon
  • Shadow Complex
  • Archibaldā€™s Adventures
  • Pokemon Sapphire
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Syphon Filter

Looking at the list, it is more likely that I will complete Shadow Complex, Syphon Filter and Blue Dragon first if the focus is put on them.

#529

Iā€™ve been playing Rocket League. Apparently itā€™s a game of skill.

#530

Oh yeah i finished The Witcher 3.

Itā€™s pretty good.

#531

God, I remember playing Syphon Filter when it released. I had to retry certain sections of levels so many times because the difficulty was frustrating. >_<

Where are you at in Blue Dragon?

#532

Aye.

#533

This morning I started playing Magic Duels: Origins on my iPhone. I was able to access my card collection and the decks Iā€™ve built on my iPad. Animations are faster and loading times are decreased. Text is minuscule and if I hadnā€™t logged lots of hours already it would be near impossible to play. At this rate Iā€™ll unlock a new pack of cards every other day which means Iā€™ll continue to play it for a while longer. The Steam and Xbox versions (also free-to-play) should be released today. Iā€™m sticking to the iOS versions until they find a way to synchronize content between different account systems.

Deathwatch is still awesome. Iā€™ve reached act 8 and Iā€™ve started to unlock purple (highest tier) gear.

#534

Yeah, I had to replay certain sections too. I donā€™t know if itā€™s difficult or plain unfair in certain sections. You have that boss fight with the flamethrower guy where you have to hit him 10 times and you die with one hit  I am surprised about the game having checkpoints though. Itā€™s ahead of time for a PS1 game. Without it things would have been very frustrating quickly.

Did you play Syphon Filter 2 and 3? Iā€™m not sure if theyā€™re worth getting.

With Blue Dragonā€¦I got hold of a ship that letā€™s me fly everywhere. Once you get hold of it the worldmap marks spots you can go to. I went to all the optional spots. There are only some optional bosses left. After that I have the last dungeon, that would be my guess at least. Itā€™s the only spot marked with a big purple.

#535

So you got an airship?

#536

How is the airship in Blue Dragon not an actual dragon.

#537

Sorry I meant airship indeed. The airship is actually small because it is part of a bigger airship (story related). The way it is used is similar to old school JRPGs, something that isnā€™t very common with PS3 en Xbox 360 RPGs.

#538

Oh right, almost forgot to mention what Iā€™ve been up to lately. One game has been completed!

Shadow Complex
After you unlock most of the necessary skills to get hold of all the upgrades, the game opens up a lot. Thatā€™s when itā€™s also at its best. I am way more positive about this game than before. Although it still has some minor issues that stop it from reaching the heights of the games it is inspired by, the game has fantastic moments. Also the devs nailed how powerful the player feels once the main upgrades are obtained. Every hit feels good, the last weapon is so freaking satisfying with how enemies fly from every shot and how you run with hyperspeed.

Other games I have been busy with briefly include Pokemon Sapphire and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Iā€™m about to go through mt. Pyre with Pokemon Sapphire and defeated a Rathian for the first time with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. The plan for the next period is to focus a bit more on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I play the online missions with a friend, next week weā€™re going to get busy again. Time to make some progress with the single player missions in order to be strong enough. If it wasnā€™t apparent, the multiplayer missions are separate from the single player missions.

#539

Looks like not many are playing video games lately.

A quick overview of what Iā€™ve been up to.

Syphon Filter
Chapter 3 out of 5 is complete. I tend to play a chapter in one go instead of stopping at every few chapters. It makes the game feel pretty short. There is something very addictive about this game. It makes me want to get hold of Syphon Filter 2 and 3 when they get price drops.

Pokemon Sapphire
I made it to Mossdeep City, Iā€™ve made it pretty far, further than the last time. My party is 10 Pokemon around level 31.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Did about 3 missions. One mission left and 5 stars missions will be unlocked.

Blue Dragon
Right now Iā€™m going back to previous areas for chest locations. After that I will attempt optional bosses before going to the last dungeon.

#540

I beat Deathwatch a few days ago and Iā€™m now replaying it on Veteran difficulty. The missions are the same, but now the enemies have a bunch of new abilities making it a much more rewarding experience. You also get better loot.

I tried Oddworld: New ā€˜nā€™ Tasty! and Styx: Master of Shadows and those games arenā€™t for me. Tonight Iā€™ll start playing something new since Iā€™m done with watching Daredevil.

#541

Iā€™m playing Lovely Planet. Bought it with the money i got from selling steam cards. It feels like a game about escapism. I emailed the dev but he hasnā€™t answered back. Itā€™s pretty fun.
