Xbox One sold 24,000 on debut weekend in Japan

The Xbox One sold 24,000 units in its first four days on sale in Japan, according to data from Enterbrain and Famitsu. Or, to be a little more precise, the Xbox One sold 23,562 units between Thursday September 4 and Sunday September 7. Japan has always been a problematic market for Microsoft’s console business, and these figures will do little to alter the perception of the Xbox brand in the region. By way of comparison, Sony sold more than 320,000 units of the PlayStation 4 in two days in Japan, and that may be below the company’s expectations. The best-selling Xbox One game during that period was Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall, which shifted just over 22,000 units, followed by KInect Sports Rivals with just under 15,000 sales. The figures for both games include copies bundled with the Day One edition of the console.

I don’t think anyone had high expectations. Next week it will sell next to nothing.

Megaton.

How has the One fared worldwide? I really haven’t been keeping up with it.

Of course, if this is a sign of all their sales…

It’s selling quite well in North America although below the PS4. In Europe it’s doing a lot worse. In Germany it’s currently only selling one quarter of the PS4. They both had really strong debuts and the LTD sales are above many other generations at this relative point in the life cycle. The main reason why many are concerned is because of the trend. Sales are already slowing down worldwide. The enthusiast market isn’t very large and they need to come up with something new to attract new customers.

Hard to say if the Xbox One will do much better than it is doing currently. It is actually a nice system, so over time I could see it being more popular.

I don’t think the performance difference is a big differentiator to the general public, since most people don’t pay attention to games press or forums.

I doubt there is a significant performance difference between popular main stream games like FIFA, Madden, and Call of Duty.

Edit: Or rather, the audience for those games won’t care about minor differences.
