this game better have the best AI ever
What are y'all playing? ver 2.0
The game is terrific. The only thing I donāt like about it is the rating system. The only thing that matters is speed and if you want the highest rank you need to ignore enemies and rush to the end of each level.
Is there content locked behind ratings? Thereās only two achievements for rating for iām guessing it isnāt too important.
The one mission I rushed, I put a major character in direct danger and they died. It wasnāt my fault, it wouldāve happened no matter what, but that didnāt stop me from feeling that way.
ok hereās johnās trivia of the week
Valkyria Chronicles is fun and all, but letās not forget that war is not all fun and business, sometimes itās also about photographers keeping the populace aware of the going ons and making a journalistic archive of of the war and its realities
in VC Ellet is a war photojournalist going around taking pictures and whatnot, but in real life things were not so simple, in fact war photojournalism was made real by one man in particular, Robert Capa, who began his career with the spanish civil war, and the second sino-japanese war. he is most perhaps most famous for his falling soldier photo which iām sure all yāall people know, but today he is credited with pioneering photojournalism and its preservation through the ages, as he became one of the founding members of the most important and influential photographic cooperative, Magnum Photos, whose work has literally shaped the world as we remember it, giving photographers enormous strength as mediators and keepers of journalistic integrity and truthful reporting
integral to capaās participation in the creation of war photojournalism (whose death we mourn today as governments keep a tight leash on what actually comes out of a battlezone) was the Leica camera, Leica being a combination of Leitz and camera, but also and most importantly the inventor of one of the most important technologies ever, the rangefinder camera which made portable and usable cameras using 35mm film a reality and allowed photographers to come much much closer to their subjects with relatively cheap and high quality hardware, which revolutionized and still today is a monument to photojournalism the likes of which have formed our collective memories of our past.
letās just say Ellet might be a small comic relief character, but she represents those who have truly allowed us to know war and to know what horror it beckons from us
Fun fact about Valkyria Chronicles: It was originally going to be Skies of Arcadia 2. Oh, what could have beenā¦
Iāve been playing Tales of Graces F on PS3. I like it. For a Tales games, itās unconventional that the first 2 hours start you off as a young boy and going on adventures with your friends, then there is a 7 year time skip. The dodging and blocking mechanics are interesting additions to the battle system. Once you get the hang of it, sliding around your enemy can give you an edge during battles. English voices continue to be terrible in Tales games of course. Iām glad weāre starting to get the Japanese voice track in the newer Tales games. At least thatās the case for Tales of Zestiria. Iām not sure if we got the Japanese track for either of the Xillia games.
Well. Iām having a lot of fun sending Alicia and Juno undercover and stealing the bases right from beneath the enemyās noseā¦ but i hope theyāll put the other classes to use too. Maps just keep getting bigger, i hope there are smaller and more complex maps coming up.
Elysse has a really sultry voice and itās kinda weirding me outā¦
About half of Somaās puzzles wouldāve felt impossible without google, I think - though that said, itās a very good game, a great one even. What Frictional did was first to diversify the formula that made the original Amnesia frightening for about six hours by changing place, and frequently monster along with it. That said, monsters are used pretty sparingly compared to most games of this style and itās a really smart decision and as it tends to make the dangerous encounters more stressful and jarring. The writing comes off on occasion as heavy-handed, and a bit too wrapped up in its ideas, but theyāre good ideas, incredibly interesting ideas and theyāre held together by an odd, and well built sense of place and character. Rooms tell stories about the people inside them, each base has its own distinct mood and tales to tell, so exploring tends to be worthwhile, itās easy to forgive the game for being a bit in love with its own writing when the writingās very good. The one major nit Iāve got with the game is probably some of the voice acting, but after a bit I didnāt really mind the fact that mainly the main characterās speaking parts arenāt really evocatively acted out considering the things it puts the player through. Itās also gorgeous, in both sound and visual design. I greatly enjoyed it.
I played a few rounds of the Star Wars: Battlefront beta. It would have liked it more if it was less chaotic with more players. Now enemies are spawning all over the place so you constantly have to watch your back.
Kickbeat is a decent rhythm game. It has nice animations and art, but unfortunately the music is quite boring. The only song Iāve liked so far is Marilyn Mansonās The Beautiful People. Itās also kind of difficult to tell different enemies from each other and I find it easier to listen to the music than trying to look for visual clues.
Last time I mentioned completing certain games and was still busy with the following games:
- Archibaldās Adventures
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles My Life as a Darklord
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
FFCC has been completed, Iām still playing MH3U here and there and havenāt touched Archibaldās Adventures since.
I have also started on new games and completed some of them.
Completed Games
- Splatoon (wii u)
- Dead Rising (xbox 360)
Splatoon has been pretty fun in the single player mode for the most part. It feels fresh and it has its own identity. I wasnāt completely happy with it though. Certain levels feel very limiting due to them being divided in floaty levels (think of Super Mario Sunshine secret levels). I would have preferred to have all levels in worlds that are connected instead of being floaty cubes. The exploration would feel more satisfying. Those kind of levels only appear when fighting AIs or in stealth sections. I havenāt tried out online mode yet. Will do with a friend when we get around it.
I actually started playing Dead Rising last Friday. I have been very mixed about it. The set-up is very interesting. The gameās attention to detail is great when it comes to entering stores and making use of items that are being sold. The game also has a timer. This adds to the gameās tension, it can be a good thing. It also can be seen in a bad way. In order to complete cases, you have to be there on time. Therefore I was not able to explore the area properly and I had to miss out on side missions. I unlocked overtime mode after ācompletingā the game. The game can be very frustrating with the save system, time and challenge. So I had enough and did not continue with overtime mode to see the gameās true ending (youtube to the rescue!).
Here are new games that I started with and am still busy working on them.
New Games
- Etrian Mystery Dungeon (3DS)
- Nintendogs + Cats (3DS)
- Halo 3 (Xbox 360)
Etrian Mystery Dungeon tries to combine EO gameplay with Mystery Dungeon. Having completed EOIV not too long ago, I wasnāt ready to play EOU1. EMD is a good alternative. It has some of the typical EO gameplay while feeling fresh when being combined with the battle system that feels like a mix between realtime and turn-based and having random generated dungeons. Iām having a pretty good time with it but Iām not getting into it like with EOIV. Then again, Iām playing this game in small chunks and canāt invest lots of time in one go. Iām holding back with it in order to focus on my obligations. EOIV got REALLY addictive for a whileā¦haha. I canāt do the same with EMD.
Nintendogs + Cats kind of came out of nowhere. Someone was selling it for cheap and I got curious. I remember getting a Nintendogs on the DS before. I played it the wrong way and got bored of it quickly. By playing it the wrong way I mean not playing it in short bursts. Also I didnāt like how the dog didnāt hear me properly when calling its name or trying to teach it tricks. The 3DS version seems to be more of the same but it has some smaller improvements that make a world of difference to how the game can be received. The voice command works MUCH better. Every time I call the dogās name he comes straight away. The dog follows all commands and when that doesnāt happen, it feels natural and part of learning. The new walk mode is not just walking and following a straight path. This time you are actively involved and can decide where to go. Another walk mode is walking with your dog during sleep mode. Depending on the distance you travelled (in real life), you will receive gifts. 3D looks very impressive for the most part. There are other things I can mention. To keep things shortā¦this Nintendogs feels like what the DS version should have been. It feels like a proper dog simulator. Iām enjoying this game when playing it for about 20 minutes a day. I wonāt mention this game here often since it never really ends and many activities are repeated.
I started playing Halo 3 today. I made it to the second chapter, did part of it and quit for today. Itās still too early to say much about it. Iām feeling very mixed (which often happens when starting games). One thing was clear, the controls are very satisfying. Iām hoping that this will be much better than Halo 1 remake. More variety in levels and enemy designā¦I already spotted enemies from Halo 1ā¦the small ones and the bird like ones with shields -_-
